New Address for Maryland Health Insurance Plan

BULLETIN 06-07 Date: May 1, 2006 To: Insurers, Nonprofit Health Service Plans, and Health Maintenance Organizations Participating in the Non-Group Health Market in Maryland Re: New Address for Maryland Health Insurance Plan COMAR 31.10.27 Notice of the Maryland Health Insurance Plan The purpose of this bulletin is to notify carriers participating in the non-group health insurance/HMO market in Maryland of a new address for the Maryland Health Insurance Plan (MHIP). Each carrier in the non-group health insurance/HMO market is required by COMAR 31.10.27 to provide notice of MHIP when the carrier denies coverage to an individual under a non-group medically underwritten health benefit plan. Among other text, the notice is required to include the current address and telephone number of MHIP. MHIP’s new address is Maryland Health Insurance Plan, 509 Progress Drive, Suite 117, Linthicum, Maryland 21090-2256. The telephone number has not changed and is 866-780-7105, and the website remains www.marylandhealthinsuranceplan.state.md.us. Carriers are required to revise the notice mandated by COMAR 31.10.27 to reflect the current address and telephone number of MHIP. Also, there will be a period of time where the old post office box for MHIP will continue to be effective. Therefore, if a carrier has a supply of old MHIP notices, the carrier may continue to use the notices that list the old post office box (PO Box 47160) through the end of 2006. Any notices sent after January 1, 2007 will be required to contain the new address listed in this bulletin.
