Bulletin: Property and Casualty 06- 09 Date: May 4, 2006 To: Property and Casualty Insurance Companies Re: Maryland’s Move It Program ************************************************************************** The Maryland Insurance Administration has learned that on Memorial Day, the State Highway Administration, in coordination with other State agencies, will be launching the Move It Program. This program deals with property damage accidents and reminds drivers that Maryland law requires those involved in property damage only accidents where the vehicles are drivable they are required to move their vehicles out of the flow of traffic and then exchange information, including the name, address, phone number, and license number of the operator of the vehicle, the name address and phone number of the owner of the vehicle, the license plate number, vehicle make, model, year and insurance information including the company and the policy number. Information concerning this program can be obtained by going to the State Highway Administration’s website at www.traffic.md.gov. Brochures on the program with the Collision Information Exchange Form on the back are available through the State Highway Administration or this Administration. The Administration is asking that all carriers remind their producers and policyholders of the law and that insureds are NOT advised or encouraged to refuse to move their vehicles following a property damage only accident. By refusing to move vehicles, drivers involved in property damage only accidents not only impede the flow of traffic, but they may create a traffic hazard, cause a secondary accident or otherwise pose a danger to themselves and to the public safety.
