Agency Operation. DFA is headed by an executive director who is appointed by and
serves at the pleasure of the Governor. The appointment is made by the advice and consent of the
Senate. The executive director may assign to deputy directors such powers and duties as deemed
appropriate to carry out the department’s lawful functions. [§27-104-101]
DFA has deputy executive directors to assist in carrying out the functions of the department. The
duties assigned to the deputies are divided by the financial and administrative functions of the
department; however, there is some overlap with each having common functional
responsibilities.
There are several offices within DFA. Each office is managed by a director who serves at the
pleasure of the executive director.
