"BUD" WIGEN, COMMISSIONER OF INSURANCE RE : LIFE AND HEALTH INSURANCE GUARANTY ASSOCIATION CHAPTER 26-26.1 (S.B. 2499) EFFECTIVE July 1, 1983 DATE: AUGUST 1, 1983 The initial meeting of the Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association of North Dakota was held in Bismarck, North Dakota on July 14, 1983. As a result of this organizational meeting, a Board of Directors and a slate of officers were elected, and steps were taken to implement the requirements of Chapter 26-36.1. At this meeting, the Board of Directors voted to make a Class A assessment for all companies licensed to write life and health insurance in North Dakota to provide for administrative and other general expenses of the guaranty association. Chapter 26-36.1-06 provides the statutory authority to do so and requires companies to pay the assessment within 30 days of written notice of the assessment. The law requires companies who write these lines of insurance in North Dakota to belong to the Guaranty Association as a condition for their writing business in this state.
