AUTHORITY: R.I.G.L. 42-56-10 (v) Powers of the Director; R.I.G.L. 42-56-4 Administrative Procedures Act; Administrative Policy Statements 1.00.01; 1.02.03-1. II. PURPOSE: To affirm that a designated staff member of the Department of Corrections coordinates and supervises the Religious Programs at all facilities. III. POLICY: It is the policy of the Rhode Island Department of Corrections to insure that all Religious Programs are properly supervised and under the direct supervision of specifically designated personnel. IV. DISCUSSION: It shall be the responsibility of the Deputy Assistant Director/Rehabilitative Services to coordinate and supervise all Religious Programs. All persons in charge of any of the Religious Services and/or Programs report to the Deputy Assistant Director/Rehabilitative Services. 1. Catholic Chaplaincy Team of four or more persons which shall be a combination of religious and lay persons shall conduct Catholic Services and Programs in all facilities. 2. A Protestant Chaplain shall conduct all Protestant Services and Programs in all facilities. 3. A Jewish Rabbi shall be available to render Jewish Services on an “as-needs” basis. 4. The Imam and other qualified Muslim persons designated by the Mosque in Providence shall conduct all Muslim Programs and Services for Muslims in all facilities. 5. Bible Study, Religious Study, and Prayer Services shall be conducted by all of the above along with volunteer clergy as well as volunteer lay persons. B. All persons, Religious, Lay, and Correctional shall conduct Religious Services and Programs as per Operational Memorandum Number 5.06.01.
