Hirsig Commissioner M E M O R A N D U M To: Insurance Companies Licensed to Transact Business in Wyoming From: Wyoming Insurance Department, Examination Section Date: August 31, 2012 Re: OPTins – Online Filing For Premium Tax The Examination Section of the Wyoming Insurance Department is responsible for the tax regulation of all insurance companies and other regulated entities that are authorized, approved or registered to transact business in the State of Wyoming. This includes responsibility for the timely preparation, collection, recording, analysis and reporting of all insurance premiums, taxes and renewal fees. The Department has implemented OPTins (Online Premium Tax for Insurance) for insurance companies. OPTins was developed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) to facilitate the electronic submission of required filings and payments that are due quarterly and annually. While filings may still be submitted by mail, the Department is encouraging companies to begin using the OPTins system. The system will be available for use beginning with the 3rd Quarter Premium Tax filing for 2012. The OPTins system is very simple and requires no formal training. Easy to follow instructions are available at http://www.optins.org. Once you are registered and have set up an account, you will be able to log in, upload your filing forms and submit your payment online. Everything is electronic and tax forms along with the payment are received by the Wyoming Insurance Department immediately upon submission by the company. Utilizing OPTins will save time and ensure that tax forms and payments are received together and on time. OPTins does charge a nominal fee to use this service. To implement OPTins, contact the OPTins Marketing Team at optinsmktg@naic.org or call (816) 783-8787. If you already use OPTins, you do not have to contact OPTins Marketing, just login and file for Wyoming.
